Muslims must understand that an engagement in Islam is simply a promise of marriage. It's just the time period between the marriage contract and the marriage ceremony and does not offer them any special rights over one another. Hence, they have to refrain from any kind of intimacy or privacy and follow proper Islamic guidelines while seeking out a potential spouse. |
