Modalert 200mg is a prescription medication that is used to promote wakefulness in patients with narcolepsy, a condition characterized by excessive sleepiness during the day. It works by increasing the amount of a neurotransmitter called orexin in the brain. This neurotransmitter regulates wakefulness and sleep. Modafinil was first approved for use as a treatment for narcolepsy. In the same year, it was approved to treat excessive sleepiness during the daytime in patients with narcolepsy and hypersomnia. Its effectiveness was tested in mice by investigating how the drug influenced the activity of c-Fos in the brain. It was found that caffeine is as effective as modafinil in stimulating this neurotransmitter. |
