Green subsidies have been enacted to reduce Britain's national carbon footprint. They are designed to encourage energy companies to switch from carbon-based energy sources to renewable sources more information here https://www.simplyswitch.com/energy/gui ... pros-cons/. The long-term goal of these measures is to reduce carbon emissions by 80% from the levels reached in 1990. The government wants to achieve this by 2050. This requires us to move away from sources such as fossil fuels and toward renewable sources such as solar and wind power. Some clean energy providers already provide 100 percent renewable energy. Subsidies help them and help others reach this stage. |
